Vic Barlow Dog Training
If you are reading this the chances are you have a new puppy, or an older dog with issues. You may be delighted with your dog and simply want to join a training class or desperately seeking advice for a behaviour problem. In any event you and your dog are most welcome. Regular readers of my newspaper column know I am on a lifetime mission to improve the relationship between owners and their dogs.

It's far easier to avoid problems than to solve them so a good training class is essential for a well balanced dog. Don't sign up for the first one you hear about or the one nearest home. Look around, check what's available, consult other owners then trust your judgement. We keep our classes relatively small so we can address individual behaviour problems.

Older dogs often come to us having had little or no education. These dogs are under my direct supervision. There is no such thing as a bad dog only a poorly educated one. I have yet to meet any dog regardless of age, size or breed that did not respond to leadership and training.

In order to maintain recognised professional training standards we operate the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme and a detailed syllabus for the course is presented to each handler on registration.

Important Notice: Whilst every care will be taken owners are responsible for their own dog.

Our HQ will be The Visitor Centre Astbury Mere Congleton CW12 4FR from where we will head out to various locations.
Each day will commence with a review of basic training, control and help with behaviour issues.
This will NOT be a theory driven workshop where you'll need to take lots of notes.
Some training classes may be a perfect fit others just won't match your expectations so how do you choose what's right for you and your dog?
Just like top restaurants, the best trainers specialise.
I am on a lifetime mission to improve the relationship between owners and their dogs.
I know from long experience the problems pet owners face with varied advice and a multitude of conflicting opinions.
So I plan to make it an easier choice.
If you are training for agility, flyball, tracking or field trials my class is not the one for you.
The vast majority of behaviour problems are conditioned responses.
They are NOT genetic but learned patterns of behaviour and what can be 'learned' can be unlearned.
Most rescue dogs have issues unwittingly taught by previous owners.
Running away, fighting, aggression, jumping up, possessiveness can all surface a few weeks after adopting a rescue dog.
The good news is these dogs can be rehabilitated at any age.
Dogs are sociable animals (they must be to function as a pack) and will always move towards balance once they are shown the way.
Just wanted to thank you for your incredible session yesterday, and to let you know that I have just taken Ruby out for a 30 minute walk, she walked beautifully on the lead, and although resistant to sitting, I kept persevering!
We even crossed the road as the dog she had tried to attack previously crossed opposite us, (What a coincidence!)
Ruby was already sitting and didn't move a muscle!
Roads where she would usually have strained very much at the lead, she just trotted along nicely!
I don't think she even barked once after you left yesterday, even with Maya and her friends coming and going.
