The proprietor of Valais Blacknose Sheep Cheshire, Steve Dace, developed a fascination with poultry at the tender age of 6, growing up on a smallholding with approximately 6 acres of land. Since then, his aspiration was to own land in the future. Now, with years under his belt and a family eager to roll up their sleeves, especially during lambing season and shows, Steve has realized his dream. Valais Blacknose Sheep Cheshire proudly manages over 45 acres of land in the heart of Cheshire, cultivating a substantial Valais Blacknose flock.

Beyond sheep, Steve also raises Valais Blackneck Goats, hailing from Switzerland and known for their charming personalities. Additionally, he specializes in Laced Wyandotte Chickens and Sebastopol Geese, showcasing them at national and federation shows.

The Valais Blacknose, a heritage breed originating from the Upper Valais region of the German-speaking part of Switzerland, is recognized by various names such as Blacknosed Swiss, Visp, Visperschaf, Walliser Schwarznaseschaf, and Wallis Blacknose. Despite its popularity in its native area, this domestic sheep breed is relatively uncommon globally, with a population of 13,700 herdbook animals. The breed exhibits a reproductive capacity of approximately 1.6 lambs per year. Unlike many sheep breeds that follow a seasonal breeding pattern, Valais sheep breed throughout the year. Renowned for their dual-purpose nature, these black-nose sheep are raised for both meat and wool production.

I honestly couldn’t recommend Valais Blacknose Sheep Cheshire more highly. I’m very new to keeping sheep but Steve has been wonderful at offering advice and the benefit of his vast experience.
His passion, knowledge and enthusiasm are second to none, it’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with him!
I took delivery of a gorgeous Valais Blacknose Spitti today from Steve and I am over the moon with her. She’s in excellent condition and has without a doubt been thoroughly cared for and reared by an absolute professional.

I recently purchased two Valais Blacknose Lambs off Steve and they are a superb example of the breed- well marked, fabulous fleeces and amazing temperaments.
It is clear to see the vast depth of knowledge, passion and dedication Steve possesses for the breed.

We have just bought 2 wether black nose lambs with mule mothers from Steve.He was very helpful and gave us lots of info about them(we have been hill sheep farmers for many years but knew very little about Valais sheep).All his sheep seem to be extremely well kept and we would highly recommend him for anyone wanting Valais sheep.
